A few months back I watched a documentary about a guy who had been a successful sports star & as a result millionaire, he had gone onto lose everything, back to rock bottom.
Struggles with addiction, alcohol, drugs, gambling, you name it he had a problem with them all, quite a profound documentary about a guy with an addictive personality type, who had agreed to the documentary to try and help other people in society.
I was taught growing up – “You learn something from every single person in this world”.
So, I was naturally intrigued to watch.
In the documentary he came out with a statement that has stuck with me, perhaps poignant given my last month or two, a statement I now tell myself most mornings.
“The richest person in the world is the person who lives in today. Not tomorrow, not next week, not next month, but today”.
I think it is Pure Class!
That one quote had stuck with him, more than any other thing throughout all the counselling sessions he had undertaken. All he knew that today was what he could control and how he wouldn’t drink today, gamble today or do drugs today.
In the current world we find ourselves in with instability all around, the above quote rings so true, yet we all try and control today, things weeks ahead, months ahead and even sometimes years ahead.
Now there is nothing wrong at all with planning, having a plan can be key to future success, but are we too often thinking way too far ahead for our good and its causing anxiety and brain fog. Do we need to pair it back a little for while?.
The news is depressing, its wretched if you care to watch it, and yet so many people do, your team members, your patients, your supply chain.
The oil price for home heating, The diesel price, the cost of living doom.
Yet maybe if we just tried harder to control our lives and reactions to simply today, we all might become richer
So today… you can control
Your mindset…
Your health, both physical and mental
Your actions…
Your responses…
Your habits…
Your kindness…
The list goes on and on I’m sure, and all of the above help our daily lives and business lives.
By controlling today, maybe we can all become the richest person in our own world.
For those that I have worked with and have known me over the last 26 years, it feels great to be back!

(Oh and by the way – The documentary was about the life of footballer Paul Merson)
